Sweden and Thailand signs cooperation agreement on crime

Sweden and Thailand signed a cooperation agreement on combating crime in connection with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra met with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt on Monday.

The purpose of the agreement is for state authorities quickly to exchange information including terrorism, serious drug offenses and trafficking.

With the agreement it will be possible to solve more cases in Thailand but also to be able to increase the number of investigations of Swedes in Sweden who have committed crimes in Thailand.

Justice Minister, Beatrice Ask, has recently been in Vietnam to negotiate a similar agreement. Vietnam is an emerging destination for child sex tourism.

During the Thai Prime Minister’s visit to Sweden, the two countries also signed a bilateral cooperation spanning a range of areas such as environment and energy, information and communication technology, research and education, health and elder care, design, regional development and defense.
