Thailand has entered a period of mourning following the announcement that Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati passed away on 11 June at the age of 47. The Princess had been hospitalized for nearly four years following a collapse in December 2022.
The Princess was the eldest child of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Soamsawali and, through both her royal lineage and public service, became one of the most respected members of the younger generation of the Thai Royal Family.
As mourning procedures are being implemented, government offices, state agencies and many public institutions across Thailand have begun displaying mourning banners and tribute pages on their websites. In many cases, regular website colour schemes have been replaced with black, grey and white tones as a mark of respect.
Visitors to government websites will often encounter memorial messages, black ribbons and portraits of the Princess. Similar visual changes have also appeared on social media accounts operated by public authorities.
Further announcements regarding funeral rites and official mourning arrangements are expected from the Bureau of the Royal Household.
Despite the national mourning period, the Government has announced that scheduled meetings, conferences, celebrations, business events and community activities may proceed as planned. Organizers may, at their own discretion, choose to include a brief expression of condolence or a moment of respect for the late Princess at the opening of an event.
