Vietnam has been announced as a new partner country in the GreenVoyage2050 project, a global initiative launched in 2019 by the Government of Norway and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The project aims to support the maritime industry in transitioning toward a lower-carbon future.
As part of the collaboration, Vietnam will receive technical assistance to explore the feasibility of establishing green shipping corridors connecting Vietnamese ports with others in the region and internationally. The initiative also promotes public-private partnerships and provides funding for energy-efficient maritime technologies, writes the Norwegian Embassy on its Facebook page.
In a recent interview on Vietnam’s national broadcaster VTV4, Mette Møglestue, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi, expressed Norway’s intent to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in reaching the country’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
“Norway is very happy to see that IMO, Norway and Vietnam can be partners in this endeavour”, Mette Møglestue expressed during the interview on VTV4.
The GreenVoyage2050 project aligns with the IMO’s climate strategy and supports participating countries in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.
