Swedish IP consultancy enters China market

The Awapatent Group opened new offices in Beijing and Hong Kong under the brand AWA Asia on February 9. This means that Awapatent now has 16 offices in total in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and China, and thereby consolidates its recognition as one of the leading international IP firms with presence on two continents: Europe and Asia. AWA Asia will be managed by IP heavyweight Ai-Leen Lim, the former international partner and head of trademark portfolio management of Bird & Bird in Greater China. Ai-Leen Lim will lead the Asian offices as CEO and Principal Counsel for the region.

“The vision for AWA Asia is to be the Asian arm of Awapatent, a leading pan European-Asian IP firm with a tier 1 reputation in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious IP work,” says Magnus Hallin, CEO Awapatent.

Ai-Leen Lim is well recognized by the industry and international clients and will be joined by several senior lawyers and experienced IP portfolio management executives from Bird & Bird. Together they will provide an East-meets-West-approach for Western clients with IP issues in Asia and for Asian clients with IP issues in Europe. The offer covers all IP services, from filing through to registration, exploitation, enforcement, dispute resolution, related advisory/regulatory work and IP transactions.

“We combine IP law with local business knowledge, and support IP rich companies of all profiles and the world’s well-known brand owners,” says Ai-Leen Lim.

AWA Asia has also established an IP consultancy in Beijing under the name AWA IP (Beijing) Co., Ltd, which is a licensed PRC trademark agency that enables filing and enforcement of trademarks directly in China before the Trade Mark Office and the administrative authorities.
