Chinese-Swedish Traffic Safety Research Centre to Establish in Beijing

On May 28, China and Sweden agreed to jointly establish a road traffic safety research centre in Beijing.

Entrusted by the Swedish government, Volvo will coordinate the research which will include analysis of traffic incidents, study of driver behavior, and development of safer road. The cooperation memo was signed by both China and Sweden. 

“The operation of the centre should start in the end of 2012,” said Shen Hui, Senior Vice-President of Volvo and Chairman of Volvo’s China operations.

According to the country’s Ministry of Public Security, the death toll from traffic accidents in China was 62,387 which represented the world’s highest number of road fatalities in 2011.
