Denmark to double Myanmar aid

The Minister for Development Cooperation Christian Friis Bach decided January this year to double the Danish aid to Myanmar. The annual aid will increase from 8.5 million USD to 17 million USD.

The decision was made after Christian Friis Bacg visited Myanmar and as the first Danish minister ever met the Burmese opposition leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

“We will support the popular movements that are working hard to develop democracy and thereby creates the prerequisites for both the social, economic and political reforms,” said Christian Friis Bach in a statement.
