Greenland: No Philippine Nurses

The health authorities of Greenland have declined a proposal from the recruiting company Health Care Denmark to solve the island’s problems with lack of nurses by importing health personal from the Philippines.
The reason given by the local medias is that greatest lack of nurses are to find in the remoter areas, where the majority of the population only speaks Kalaallisut (the mother-tongue of Greenland) and would not be able to understand foreign nurses. In March 200 Philippine nurses goes to Thailand to start an intensive Danish-course, and is planed to go to Denmark during the summer to fill the huge gap in the needed number of nurses – But so far, none of them will end up on the arctic island.
Denmark is not the only country to employ Philippine nurses. Last year more than 1300 crossed the Pacific Ocean to work in USA.
