Fairfield Methodist School twinned with Norwegian School

Singapore’s Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) has been twinned with Gausdal Upper Secondary School in Norway. In the run-up to the Youth Olympic Games, the two schools will work together to foster an understanding between their students and learn about each others cultures.
Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games from 14 to 26 August 2010. 3,600 young athletes between 14 and 18 years of age, from 205 different countries, will participate in the games and take part in the new Culture and Education Program.
As part of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore the organizing committee has embarked on an ambitious program to get Singapore’s youth involved.  The games are not just about the competition, but also about the Olympic spirit which according to the IOC “requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play”.  For the Youth Olympic Games, there is an even stronger focus on these values of which the school twinning program forms an integral part.
Students from Gausdal visited Singapore in December 2009 and aim to return to experience the Games in August.  Fairfield also hopes to be able to send some students to Gausdal in the future.   As a culmination of the relationship between the two schools, Fairfield Methodist School will be responsible for the Norway booth in the Cultural Village during the Youth Olympic Games.  The booth will be open to all athletes over the two weeks.
Gausdal Upper Secondary School is located in Oppland, Norway – the county which hosted the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer in 1994.  To mark the tenth anniversary of the Olympic Games in Norway, Gausdal organized a mini Youth Olympic Games in 2004 in which 800 athletes participated.
