Dane arrested for smuggling heroin in Thailand

Investigation police officers from Pai district from Mae Hong Sorn province were able to arrest a Danish man who smuggled the most addictive drugs heroin and marijuana or cannabis.

On June 23 at 11.30 PM, Police Lt. General Tanu Inprom of Pai polices station together with over 20 tourist and investigation police officers went to arrest 63 year-old Sonny Rasmussen, a Danish national who was suspected of smuggling drugs. He was arrested carrying heroin and cannabis that police presume were worth over 200,000 THB.

Police officers that were stationed at a checkpoint in Mt. Mae Ya were informed by undercover police officers that a foreigner was going to smuggle drugs out of Pai district. They were told to look out for a passenger bus that belonged to Prem Pracha transportation as it was believed that this was how the Danish national was going to smuggle the drugs.

After the passenger bus arrived at the checkpoint, the Danish man was found within the bus. He was then taken to Pai police station where he was inspected and interrogated.

The Dane confessed that he did smuggle heroin and cannabis, but he claimed that he received the drugs from a woman who was from the Lahu tribe. He was initially charged for smuggling and possessing illegal drugs. Police will now try to track-down the woman who was reported to be distributing the drugs
