Danish EU parliamentarian Christel Schaldemose is part of a delegation visiting China this week, marking the European Parliament’s first visit to the country in eight years.
The delegation, consisting of members from the European Parliament’s internal market and consumer protection committee, will meet major Chinese e-commerce platforms including Temu and Shein.
Online trade is a key topic during the visit, with Schaldemose expected to raise concerns about product safety and responsibility. According to the European Parliament, the trip aims to provide better insight into China’s technology sector and its role in global e-commerce.
The visit takes place from 31 March to 2 April and includes meetings in Beijing and Shanghai. In recent years, e-commerce imports into the EU have increased significantly, with a large share of small parcels arriving from China.
