Denmark supports Philippines in revitalizing shipbuilding industry

Denmark reaffirmed its support for the Philippines’ ambition to become a global leader in shipbuilding during a virtual seminar co-hosted with the Philippine government on revitalizing the country’s maritime industry.

Ambassador Franz-Michael “Dan-Dan” Mellbin highlighted Denmark’s commitment to innovation and partnerships in the maritime sector during his remarks at the event, which was organized in cooperation with the Department of Transportation (DOTR) and the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).

The seminar brought together key figures from the Philippine government, including DOTR Secretary Vince Dizon, ARTA Secretary Ernesto Perez, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go, and officials from the Maritime Industry Authority. The Philippine representatives emphasized their commitment to enhancing the country’s shipbuilding capacity and creating an environment that supports increased local employment and foreign investment.

Industry experts also contributed to the discussion, including Dr. Nikos Mikelis of the BIMCO Ship Recycling Alliance, Gerardo Borromeo of PTC Holdings, Peter Sylvest from Odense Maritime Technology, Thomas Sylvest of Danish Shipping, and representatives from the OECD.

The Embassy of Denmark expressed its intention to continue the dialogue with an upcoming in-person seminar and welcomed broader engagement from stakeholders.
