Ericsson has celebrated its 120th anniversary in Thailand by announcing a partnership with the country’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), Ericsson reports in a press release.

The collaboration will integrate Ericsson Educate, the company’s global online learning program, into depa’s Digital Skills Roadmap, giving Thai students and workers free access to courses in artificial intelligence and 5G technology.

Founded in Sweden in 1876, Ericsson has been present in Thailand since 1906, playing a central role in building the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure through every generation of mobile connectivity, from 1G to today’s 5G. The company conducted Thailand’s first live 5G trial in 2017 and supported the commercial launch in 2020.

Today, Ericsson operates 5G networks in 80 countries worldwide, carrying nearly half of global 5G traffic outside China.

The initiative reflects Ericsson’s commitment not only to connectivity but also to workforce development. By embedding its education platform into depa’s roadmap, the company supports Thailand’s ambition to produce at least one million digital talents annually.

“Celebrating 120 years in Thailand is a testament to our enduring dedication to the nation’s progress,” said Anders Rian, Head of Ericsson Thailand.

Acting President and CEO of depa, Dr. Supakorn Siddhichai, said Ericsson’s global expertise will be vital in shaping Thailand’s digital future.

“Ericsson’s cutting-edge connectivity and technological perspective are invaluable. We are eager to benefit from their insights, which will help our youth move beyond digital literacy toward becoming the innovative architects of Thailand’s digital future.”
