Malaysia says it will contact Norway through diplomatic channels after problems emerged with a missile deal for the Malaysian navy, according to The Sun.

The issue concerns Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) – advanced anti-ship missiles designed to destroy enemy vessels at sea – made by Norwegian defence company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace . The missiles were meant to be installed on Malaysia’s new warships.

Malaysia’s Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said a change in Norway’s export approval policy has affected the delivery of the missiles.

He added that Malaysia wants to protect its defence interests while also maintaining good relations with Norway.

The Norwegian-made missiles are considered an important part of Malaysia’s plans to strengthen its navy.
