Malaysia navy will receive Norwegian missiles in March

Malaysian defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The Royal Malaysian Navy is set to receive deliveries of Norway’s Naval Strike Missile in March, the Strait Times reports.

Malaysian defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Malaysia will operate two surface-to-surface missile types. He described the move as part of a phased replacement plan for Malaysia’s anti-ship missile capability.

The minister said the plan is meant to modernise naval capabilities within fiscal limits. He made the remarks in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat on 5 February.

The replacement plan follows concerns about the navy’s Exocet MM40 Block II missiles. Khaled said the missiles are 29 years old and no longer relevant for current needs.
