A Norwegian defence company will supply advanced minesweeping technology to the Indonesian Navy as part of a new international contract.
Norwegian company H. Henriksen has announced that it will deliver its Henriksen Multi Lightweight Influence Sweep (HEMLIS) system to the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).
According to the company, this marks the first commercial sale of the HEMLIS system outside Europe.
The systems will be integrated on unmanned surface vessels supplied by French defence company Exail, previously known as ECA Group. Delivery to the Indonesian Navy will be handled by Indonesian company PT Agrapana Nugraha Katara, a local partner of German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen.
H. Henriksen said the system will add a modern and modular unmanned minesweeping capability to the Indonesian Navy’s existing mine countermeasures toolbox.
Designed for both manned and unmanned operations, HEMLIS can be scaled for use in confined waters or as part of larger task group operations. The system uses influence sweeping techniques to clear naval mines while reducing risk to crews and platforms.
HEMLIS has previously been installed on Alta-class minesweepers operated by the Royal Norwegian Navy.
The minesweeping systems are set to be deployed from two 62-metre mine countermeasures vessels, KRI Pulau Fani (731) and KRI Pulau Fanildo (732), which were built by Abeking & Rasmussen and delivered to the Indonesian Navy in 2023.
