In northern Vietnam, local hospitals are transforming emergency care through international collaboration.

Thuy Nguyen Medical Center recently performed its first successful thrombolysis on a 68-year-old stroke patient, restoring mobility within hours, Vietnam.VN reports.

Key to this success was rapid coordination and expert support from higher-level hospitals.

Equally notable is the role of international partnerships. Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital has been training local doctors in advanced techniques like electrocardiography, improving early detection of heart disease and enabling timely referrals.

In one 2025 case, a rural clinic detected a heart attack and, with guidance from Hai Duong General Hospital and Swedish-trained protocols, transferred the patient for lifesaving coronary stenting within an hour.

These efforts show how technology transfer, training, and remote consultation between Vietnam and Sweden strengthen grassroots healthcare, allowing local clinics to act decisively in emergencies and improve overall patient outcomes.

With cardiovascular disease rising and affecting younger patients, such collaborations are key to Vietnam’s plan to develop primary healthcare capacity by 2030, shortening response times and saving lives while reducing the burden on city hospitals.
