Air travel across Asia is under pressure right now.
On April 5, thousands of travellers are experiencing delays and cancellations as widespread disruptions hit major airports across China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Singapore, Travel And Tour World reports.
Delays are reported due to thunderstorms, fog, and low visibility.
So far, 3,674 delays and 351 cancellations have been recorded across 23 airports.
The situation is most severe in southern China, where thunderstorms, fog, and low visibility are slowing airport operations.
Airports affected
The hardest hit airports include Shenzhen Bao’an with 52 cancellations and 593 delays, Guangzhou Baiyun with 47 cancellations and 268 delays, and Shanghai Pudong with 20 cancellations and 268 delays. Other major hubs such as Beijing Capital and Beijing Daxing are also seeing over 100 delays each.
Outside China, disruption is spreading. Tokyo Haneda has recorded 533 delays, Seoul Incheon 233 delays, and Delhi IGI 267 delays.
Singapore Changi remains relatively stable with 153 delays and no cancellations so far.
Airspace congestion and environmental restrictions are adding to the problem, creating knock-on delays across the region.
Several major Chinese airlines are heavily affected, including China Eastern, Shenzhen Airlines, and China Southern Airlines. International carriers such as Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Korean Air, and Asiana Airlines are also seeing delays.
