Thailand has called on Norway to reassess its support for Cambodia’s landmine clearance programs, raising concerns over newly planted mines along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The appeal was delivered by Thailand’s Ambassador to Norway, H.E. Nitivadee Manitkul, in a speech in Oslo on 20 August. She briefed participants on the tense border situation, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to the ceasefire while condemning what she described as Cambodia’s indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
According to Ambassador Nitivadee, Cambodian forces have deployed new anti-personnel mines in disputed areas, causing injuries to Thai soldiers inside Thai territory. She said such actions violated international humanitarian law and the Ottawa Convention.
The ambassador urged Norway, a long-standing donor to humanitarian mine clearance, to encourage Cambodia to cooperate with Thailand in removing mines along the shared border.
Her remarks were made during an annual gathering of ASEAN and Norwegian ambassadors, officials, and business leaders. She also highlighted ASEAN’s achievements and emphasized growing partnerships, including the Thailand-EFTA Free Trade Agreement and increasing Thai investments in Norway.

The Norwegian Parliament gave the Nobel Peace Prize to Henry Kissinger who dropped many bombs on Cambodia including those that are undetonated. They still exist in Cambodia. The least Norway can do is help remove bombs from Cambodia. Keep supporting Cambodia’s landmine clearance program.
