PUB Singapore, Singapore’s national water agency, was awarded the 2007 Stockholm Industry Water Award on August 15 organized by Stockholm International Water Institute and being held this year on August 12-18 in Stockholm for its holistic approach to water resources management, The award was presented during World Water Week.
The award recognized PUB Singapore’s efforts to make water use sustainable for different sectors of society in a unique and challenging urban island environment.
PUB’s holistic approach has included water reuse, desalination, stormwater storage practices and treated water to businesses that internally reuse supplies.
According to the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) press release, PUB also has “significantly reduced” water losses from leaking infrastructure and has restructured its water rates to encourage more efficient water use.
