Danish infrastructure fund A.P. Møller Capital has entered Vietnam’s logistics sector with an investment in ALS Cargo Terminal at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. The deal is made through the fund’s Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II in partnership with Vietnam-based VinaCapital.

ALS Cargo Terminal currently handles up to 250,000 tonnes of cargo annually, with plans to expand capacity in line with the country’s fast-growing trade flows. According to Jens Thomassen, Partner at A.P. Møller Capital, the company’s focus will be on unlocking the terminal’s potential through automation, expansion and sustainability.

“Gaining access to this sector requires trust, local partnerships and a proven ability to deliver. Our heritage in global transport and long track record of building infrastructure businesses in high-growth markets were key to opening that door,” he says.

VinaCapital highlights the wider impact on the Vietnamese economy. “The improvement of infrastructure and logistics in Vietnam are critical to continued robust economic growth,” says Don Lam, CEO of VinaCapital. He notes that the investment in ALSC is the first step in the partnership with A.P. Møller Capital.

ALS founder Phung Tien Toan adds that the collaboration will bring global expertise as well as capital, helping ALS strengthen its position at Noi Bai and play a leading role in Vietnam’s logistics growth.

The deal marks A.P. Møller Capital’s third investment in Southeast Asia through EMIF II and adds to its existing renewable energy projects in Vietnam.
