Nordic Ambassadors’ Luncheon in the Philippines

The Nordic Business Council Philippines (NBCP) gathered the Philippine-Nordic business community for the Nordic Ambassadors’ Luncheon at the New World Makati Hotel Ballroom on Thursday 6 June 6 2013. More than 100 people participated in the event, in presence of the Nordic ambassadors to the Philippines together with DTI Undersecretary Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr.

After welcome remarks from NBCP President Bo Lundqvist, two recent Nordic investments to the Philippines were showcased in case presentations from Mr. Niels Ole Jeppesen, General Director of Sonion Philippines, Inc. and Mr. Nathaniel Gorre, R&D Manager of Tieto Cebu.

Following the case presentations, Undersecretary Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr. of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Trade and Investment Promotion Group delivered his keynote address, thanking the commitment of Sonion and Tieto and emphasizing that the potential for Nordic business in the Philippines should not be underestimated.

Panel discussion moderator Mr. Ramon K. Ilusorio, the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Multinational Investment Bancorporation and Honorary Consul General of Finland, then made his pitch on behalf of the Nordic countries. According to him, the reasons behind Nordic countries’ success can be attributed to the free market economy, efficiency of government, and high quality of education.

First to react to the keynote message was H.E. Knut Solem, Ambassador of Norway to the Philippines. Next was H.E. Nicolai Ruge, Ambassador of Denmark to Malaysia and the Philippines (based in Kuala Lumpur), followed by H.E. Matti Pullinen, Ambassador of Finland to Malaysia and the Philippines (also based in Kuala Lumpur). The round of reactions was wrapped up by H.E. Klas Molin, Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines (based in Bangkok).
