Norwegian biometric technology company Next Biometrics has secured its first contract in Malaysia, supplying fingerprint readers to government authorities, according to Biometric Update.
The company’s Oyster III device will be used for identity verification across public-sector applications.
Shipments related to the order are expected to begin during the first quarter of 2026, marking Next’s entry into the Malaysian market.
Orders in both Malaysia and India
The Malaysian order comes at the same time as a new order from India worth NOK 3.5 million for Next Biometrics’ fingerprint sensor.
The Indian order is linked to the country’s large national ID and payment system, where fingerprint technology is used to confirm people’s identity.
Together, the contracts in Malaysia and India show that Norwegian biometric technology is gaining ground in Asia, as governments continue to invest in secure digital identification systems, according to Biometric Update.
