Norway’s Parliament control committee is moving ahead with a probe into how Telenor and the state handled the company’s exit from Myanmar. The Norwegian state owns just under 54% of Telenor.

The committee is seeking clarification on reports that Telenor’s Myanmar unit complied with junta demands involving customer telecom data. It is also asking what the government knew and when.

Committee chair Per-Willy Amundsen has called the matter “extremely serious.” Other MPs have also pushed for a fuller review of the state’s role as majority owner.

The committee has sent questions to several ministries and the prime minister’s office. It has also requested documents, with further answers expected shortly after the New Year.
