A Thai secondary school choir has won gold and silver medals at the World Choir Games in Helsingborg, Sweden.
The Chulada Choir represents Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School in Bangkok. It received 87.75 points and a gold medal in the Youth Choirs of Equal Voices category.
However, several choirs can receive gold medals in the same category. Only the choir with the highest score earns the title Champion of the World Choir Games.
China’s ByeZoo Choir topped the category and secured the championship title. Nevertheless, Chulada Choir’s score earned the Thai students a gold medal.
The Thai choir also competed in Sacred Choral Music a Cappella. It received 79.25 points and a silver medal in that category.
Overall, Chinese choirs dominated the competition with 44 medals. Host country Sweden followed with 12 medals, while Canada and Indonesia each collected seven.
The 14th World Choir Games took place in Helsingborg from 6 to 16 August 2026. The Champions Competition brought together choirs with previous national or international experience.
Following the competition, Chulada Choir travelled to Stockholm. On 18 August, the choir performed at Sofia Church in a concert organised with the Royal Thai Embassy.
Thai Ambassador to Sweden Arunrung Phothong Humphreys opened the concert. She highlighted the role of music in connecting people from different cultures.
The performance featured international choral works and Thai compositions arranged for choir. Members of Stockholm’s diplomatic community and the Thai community in Sweden attended the event.
Earlier that day, the ambassador hosted the students for lunch at her residence. The gathering recognised their results in Helsingborg and their role in presenting Thai culture abroad.
