Vietnam and Denmark launch food-waste recycling handbook in HCM City

The Food Waste Recycling Handbook is launched in Ho Chi Minh City to support Vietnam’s green transition and circular-economy initiatives.

Vietnam and Denmark have launched a new Food Waste Recycling Handbook aimed at strengthening green transformation and circular-economy practices in the country.

The handbook was introduced in Ho Chi Minh City on 12 November through a collaboration between the Vietnam Food Bank Network, the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

According to the organisers, the publication is designed to help households, schools and businesses sort, reuse and recycle food waste more effectively, drawing on Danish experience in waste management and green innovation.

The guide includes practical tools, visual instructions and case studies from community projects. It also supports ongoing efforts to reduce methane emissions and promote sustainable consumption habits.

Denmark’s counsellor for food and agriculture in Vietnam, Sanne Høj Andrén, said the handbook highlights the shared priorities of the two countries.

“We are proud to partner with VFBN on this project to share knowledge and best practices in food waste management, inspiring positive change from the community level,” she said.

The initiative forms part of the Vietnam–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, which includes cooperation on renewable energy, waste management and low-emission development. A joint action plan for 2024–25 was announced last year.
