Carlsberg and WWF Denmark expand water partnership across Asia

Carlsberg and WWF Denmark expand their Asia partnership to restore wetlands and replenish water resources in high-risk areas.

Carlsberg Group and WWF Denmark are continuing their partnership to protect water resources in Asia. The collaboration now enters its third phase, running from 2026 to 2028.

The partnership will focus on restoring wetlands in Nepal and launching a new project in Ningxia in China’s Yellow River basin. Existing projects in China and Laos will also be maintained and monitored.

Carlsberg states that water is a critical resource for its production. The company is working to reduce water use and replenish resources in high-risk areas through cooperation with WWF Denmark.

Previous phases of the partnership have restored wetlands across seven locations near four breweries. In 2025, the projects replenished 1.2 million cubic metres of water, equivalent to 2.4 billion half-litre bottles.

When fully implemented, projects in Nepal, China and Laos are expected to contribute about 40% of Carlsberg’s 2032 target to replenish 100% of water used in breweries located in high-risk areas.
