Singapore is stepping up efforts to protect its ports from growing cyber threats.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has signed a new agreement with Germany’s Hamburg Port Authority to strengthen cybersecurity, according to Container News.

Singapore is one of the world’s busiest shipping hubs and plays a key role in global supply chains. Disruptions at major ports can impact international trade.

The deal focuses on protecting port operations from cyber threats, including ship systems, remote operations and communication between ships and shore.

Growing threat

Cybersecurity is becoming a major concern as ports become more digital and interconnected.

Cybersecurity is a core operational priority, said David Foo, Deputy Chief Executive at Singapore’s port authority speaking to Container News.

The partnership will include joint exercises, information sharing and development of new technologies.

The agreement builds on a previous partnership signed in 2024 and includes collaboration with universities in both Singapore and Germany.
