Danish choir calls on choirs worldwide to sing for peace

Female singers, a small town choir from Denmark hopes to unite a divided world with their global project “Sing for Unity”, explains Project Lead, Vibe Bregendahl (Inserted)

A local choir from the coastal town of Ebeltoft, Denmark, called ‘Female Singers’, has launched an ambitious global initiative to bring choirs together in a shared message of unity and peace.

The project, titled “Sing for Unity,” invites choirs across the world to mark the UN International Day of Peace on 21 September 2025 with a concert held at 2 PM local time, wherever they are.

“That way, we create a sound wave of positive energy and joy that travels the globe from time zone to time zone,” says Vibe Bregendahl, concept creator and alto in the Ebeltoft-based choir Female Singers.

“We know it’s ambitious to build a worldwide movement in less than 160 days—but why not try?”

The choir is calling on schools, amateur choirs, and professional vocal groups worldwide to take part—including choirs in Asia. The initiative already has interest from choirs in New Zealand, the United States, Spain, Finland, and Canada.

The choir has also launched a new “Sing for Unity” hymn, composed by their conductor Vibe Ulbrandt and her husband Niels Ulbrandt. Sheet music and arrangements are freely available at www.singforunity.com. While each group is encouraged to perform songs that resonate with their local audience, the organizers suggest ending each concert with a sing-along of “What a Wonderful World” to symbolically carry the musical “sound wave” to the next time zone.

In Ebeltoft, a town of just 7,000 people, the local event will be held aboard the historic Fregatten Jylland, a preserved 19th-century Danish warship now serving as a cultural landmark. The concert will feature 300 singers from the region and aims to draw a crowd of 3,000.

“There’s something very moving about standing on a former warship and singing for peace,” says Bregendahl.

“It reminds us how far we’ve come — and that freedom and equality should never be taken for granted.”
