The Finnish biotech company developing a new treatment for blindness, StemSight, has secured patent in Singapore, the company announced in a press release.
StemSight, based in Tampere, is working on a stem cell therapy that could help people suffering from a severe eye condition that can lead to blindness.
The Singapore patent protects the company’s technology, which uses stem cells to create replacement cells for damaged tissue in the eye.
StemSight hopes its treatment can offer a new option for patients who currently have few or no effective treatments available.
“These newly granted patents represent a major milestone for StemSight,” CEO and co-founder Laura Koivusalo said.
The company is preparing for its next funding round and plans to begin human clinical trials in 2028.
The company has also received positive patent decisions in Canada and Japan, giving it protection in several major markets.
