Norway is continuing its cooperation with the United Nations to promote and protect human rights in the Philippines.
Earlier this week, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights held a two-day workshop in partnership with the Professional Criminologist Association of the Philippines. The program focused on strengthening human rights education in criminology schools, with more than 40 faculty members from across the country participating.
Norway also joined a stakeholders’ dialogue on Human Rights Cities, an initiative aimed at building local communities with stronger civic spaces and greater capacity for local governments. The dialogue included the use of the Human Rights Cities Workbook as a tool for localization.
“Human rights are at the heart of Norway’s foreign and development policy,” said Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Christian Lyster. “These principles are not just abstract ideals; they are essential in ensuring that governments uphold their duty to protect and promote the rights of their citizens.”
Norway remains one of the largest contributors to the UN–Philippines Programme Cooperation Agreement on Human Rights. The collaboration also coincides with the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
