More than 20 Norwegian retirees have filed a complaint over a housing project in Chon Buri after a change in ownership, according to Thaiger.
The residents live at Thai-Norway Resort, a village originally established by a Norwegian national. Most of the homeowners are Norwegian retirees. They own their houses but lease the land on 30-year contracts, as foreigners cannot own land in Thailand.
According to the complaint, problems began after a new Thai owner took over. Residents allege harassment and say CCTV cameras were installed and staff photographed or filmed residents.
They also claim the new management introduced a monthly common fee of 3,500 baht and asked homeowners to pay 600,000 baht to renovate the swimming pool.
Residents further allege they were asked to pay a 200,000 baht “signature fee” if they wish to sell their homes. Some have also raised concerns about water supply issues and uncertainty over future lease renewals.
Local officials have invited the new owner for talks and say the site will be inspected before further action is taken.
