Thai immigration police have arrested a Swedish man wanted on an Interpol Red Notice for an arson case in Sweden. According to Thai authorities, the man was detained in Pattaya on Monday 24 November after investigators received information from international partners that he had fled to Thailand and was hiding in the resort city.
Police said the suspect was wanted in connection with an alleged arson attack in Sävsjö. Officers from Immigration Division 3 located him after noticing that he matched the description on the arrest warrant. Authorities said he admitted his identity and was also found to have overstayed his visa.
Investigators said the man had allegedly used fake German identification cards and driver’s licences to check into hotels and conduct transactions in an effort to avoid detection.
The arrest comes as Thai police increase screening measures aimed at combating transnational crime as tourism returns. Authorities said the case reflects Thailand’s efforts to prevent the country from being used as a refuge for fugitives.
The suspect has been handed over to Pattaya police to face overstay charges. Immigration officials said they are coordinating with the Swedish Embassy regarding extradition procedures.
