Swedish companies are more optimistic than ever about doing business in the Philippines, according to a report released by the Embassy of Sweden in Manila and Business Sweden on December 13. The report highlights the Philippines’ potential in areas like sustainability, technology, infrastructure, and the green economy.
During the launch, Swedish business leaders, government representatives, and key stakeholders gathered to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new avenues for growth and cooperation.
The Swedish embassy states on Facebook that “The Philippine government’s support in driving investment and economic development has been integral in creating a robust environment for Swedish businesses to thrive.”
Challenges remain
However, challenges remain. Swedish businesses still face difficulties like complex bureaucratic processes, high energy costs, and restrictions on full foreign ownership. Slow permit processing and infrastructure gaps, especially in logistics and digital connectivity, add to the hurdles.
Despite these issues, Swedish interest is growing. Over 50 Swedish companies already operate in the Philippines, and more are considering entering the market. The report shows strong economic growth, a young workforce, and government programs improving the business environment as reasons for optimism.
Trade between the two nations is also rising, with potential for even stronger ties in the future.
