Two Swedish shipping companies have recently expanded their fleets with new hybrid vessels built at Asian shipyards. The deliveries highlight growing Nordic–Asian cooperation in sustainable maritime transport.
Stena Line has introduced its newest hybrid Ro-Ro vessel, Stena Futura, which arrived in Belfast Harbour after its delivery voyage. The vessel will operate on the freight-only Belfast to Heysham route, with entry into service beginning September 22.
Meanwhile, ESL Shipping, through its Swedish subsidiary AtoB@C Shipping, has taken delivery of Ventumar, an 89.95-metre hybrid cargo ship built at Chowgule and Company in India. The vessel, designed to carry steel, forest products, fertiliser and project cargo, is number eight in a series of 12 ordered by the Finnish company.
The new deliveries come as Chinese yards also continue to launch dual-fuel car and truck carriers for global operators, including vessels for Sallaum Lines, Zodiac Maritime and SAIC Group. Several of these ships are bound for European trade routes, underlining Asia’s role in supplying advanced tonnage to the region.
