Vietnam and Sweden reaffirm commitment to deepen cooperation

Meetings held during Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang’s official visit to Sweden

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang met with top Swedish officials during an official visit to Sweden from Tuesday 20 to Wednesday 21 May 2025, reaffirming the two countries’ commitment to deepening their long-standing bilateral relationship.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang held talks with Dag Hartelius, Secretary of State at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Camilla Melander, Director-General for Trade Policy; Mikael Lindvall, Director-General for Global Affairs; and Anna-Karin Hedström, Head of the International Department of the Swedish Riksdag.

At the meetings, the Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam regards Sweden as one of its most important partners in Northern Europe. She expressed appreciation for Sweden’s past support during Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and its ongoing role in Vietnam’s economic development and international integration.

She proposed further strengthening cooperation through increased delegation exchanges at all levels and closer collaboration via Party, State, National Assembly, and Government channels to boost political trust and create momentum for comprehensive cooperation.

Dag Hartelius acknowledged Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and affirmed Sweden’s intention to expand cooperation. He highlighted mutual interest in areas such as trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, culture, education and training, and defense and security.

The visit was seen as a meaningful step in reinforcing the long-term sustainable partnership between Vietnam and Sweden.
