Norwegian Agency Continues Support For Vietnamese Projects

The Norwegian Mission Alliance (NMA) on May 16 revealed plans for continued financial support for the southern province of Tien Giang. The supported projects include 32,000 USD microfinance funds for women-owned businesses.
A meeting the same day hosted by the local Union of Friendship Organisations reviewed NMA’s substantial contribution to the province’s poverty reduction over the last 10 years.
The Norwegian agency has funded key projects on education, healthcare, safe water supply and sanitation, credit financing, teacher training and communications with more than 13 billion VND (approximately 813,000 USD).
Microfinance schemes of more than 2.2 billion VND funded by the NMA have brought start-up business capital to over 3,600 local poor women, providing them with an escape from poverty.
The agency has also actively engaged in a leprosy prevention programme in Tien Giang, calling for early diagnosis of people afflicted by leprosy for timely treatment and care.
