Denmark and Vietnam puppeteers will participate in this year Jerusalem International Puppetry Festival which is held from August 4 to 16. This is the first time Vietnamese puppetry will be performed in Israel.
Vietnamese water puppetry is promoted on the official leaflet of the festival and seventy artists from the Haiphong Puppetry Theatre will bring to the festival 14 water puppetry items with national culture featuring the lion dance and buffalo fighting.
A representative from the Israel Embassy in Hanoi quoted a statement from the festival’s organising board that Vietnamese puppetry has an age-long history and puppets can perform complicated movements in a lively and soulful manner.
