Chinese Temu sells imitations of iconic Danish design

Chinese Temu
Even though Temu claims to care about intellectual property rights, many in the design community want stronger actions against fake goods.

Chinese online store Temu is getting criticized for selling copies of Danish designs. This includes furniture and home decor, according to TV2.

Danish design companies have found items on Temu that look a lot like original products from famous brands like Montana and Louis Poulsen.

Joakim Lassen, the CEO of Montana, is frustrated about fake products. He said, “These are pure copies.” Ferm Living also shares these concerns because it spends a lot to protect its designs.

Even though Temu claims to care about intellectual property rights, many in the design community want stronger actions against fake goods. These copies can harm consumer safety. They also hurt the reputation of Danish design. This has led to calls for tougher rules against counterfeiters.

Increasing popularity

Back in August, Temu became the second most popular webshop among Danish consumers. This is according to an analysis from Dansk Industri, the Confederation of Danish Industry.

Despite warnings from the Danish Consumer Council and Minister for the Environment, Magnus Heunicke, Temu faces issues with product safety and EU regulations.

Still, Temu has overtaken established webshops like Matas, Elgiganten, and H&M.
