Danish tourist rescued after being trapped in rock crevice off Vietnam coast

A German and a Danish tourist were rescued after rough waves trapped them in a rock crevice off Vietnam on 19 January 2026.

Two foreign tourists, one German and one Danish, were rescued after rough waves swept them into a narrow rock crevice off Vietnam’s south-central coast on 19 January 2026.

Vietnamese police said the incident happened around 7:40am at Tien Beach in Hoa Xuan Commune, Dong Hoa Town, Dak Lak. The group had stopped during a coastal tour from Nha Trang.

A German national and a Danish national were pulled from shore and trapped in a crevice about 30 centimetres wide. The gap was more than 50 metres from where they entered the water.

Authorities said one tourist suffered a head injury and the other could not move. Local police, rescue units and border guards used ropes to pull them to safety.

Vietnam’s hydro-meteorological centre said northeast monsoon winds produced waves of 1.5 to 2.5 metres. The injured tourist was taken to a nearby medical centre for treatment.

Police urges tourists to be vary and take caution when swimming in rocky areas.
