Hong Kong film festival launches in Copenhagen

A Hong Kong–focused film festival has taken place in Copenhagen, highlighting the city’s cinema scene and its role in international cultural exchange.

The Copenhagen Hong Kong Focus Film Festival was held from Thursday 8 January to Saturday 10 January and was presented by the Denmark Asian Cultural Association with support from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.

The festival officially opened on Thursday with a reception followed by the screening of the documentary Four Trails. More than 50 guests from Copenhagen’s cultural and business communities attended the opening event.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Denmark, Wang Xuefeng, was among the attendees.

The Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, Fiona Chau, delivered an opening address via video link. She congratulated the organisers on staging the festival for the second consecutive year and on bringing Hong Kong cinema to Danish audiences.

According to Chau, the opening film reflects both Hong Kong’s natural landscapes and the spirit of those who explore them. She added that the festival supports Hong Kong’s ambition to strengthen its position as an East-meets-West hub for international cultural exchange.

The screenings took place in Copenhagen and focused on contemporary Hong Kong films, offering Nordic audiences insight into the city’s film industry and creative talent.
