Missing Dane found dead in Bangkok

Jakob Jensen, the 41-year-old Danish citizen who has been missing in Thailand since March 2025, has been confirmed dead.

The confirmation follows weeks of investigation after Jakob’s family, with support from volunteers including ScandAsia, launched a search when it became clear that he had been disappeared for 2 months since he was last seen on 21 March 2025. At the time, Jakob was believed to have travelled alone from Ranong to Bangkok after a period of erratic behaviour.

It has now been confirmed that Jakob Jensen died in police custody at Phra Khanong Police Station in Bangkok on the evening of Wednesday 26 March 2025, around 21:30. He was being held as an unidentified foreigner after police were called to respond to incidents involving an apparently distressed man near Rod Fai Sai Gaw Road in Khlong Toei District.

According to rescue workers and police officers involved in the case, Jakob had been behaving aggressively in traffic, shouting suicidal threats, and acting in a manner that led police – unaware of his medical condition – to assume he was under the influence of narcotics. Rescue services that arrived at the scene calmed him down and treated a cut on his arm and bandaged a bruise on his head before taking him to Phra Khanong Police Station.

Police placed Jakob in a single holding cell. Officers later found him unresponsive and declared him dead after attempts to resuscitate him failed. His identity was not known at the time of his death.

Jakob’s body was transferred to the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, where it has remained since, awaiting formal identification and further coordination with the Danish authorities and family.

Jakob Jensen had entered Thailand on 2 February 2025 and stayed with friends in the south of the country for several weeks. His behaviour reportedly deteriorated due to a combination of missed medication and cannabis use. After leaving Ranong, he arrived in Bangkok on 22 March, where he was later seen in videos published by a bystander, before being picked up twice by police from Lumphini Police Station. On the second occasion, he was referred to the psychiatric emergency ward at Somdet Chaopraya Hospital, but later released again.

Jakob Jensen was not carrying any official identification at the time of his final arrest. It remains a mystery, where his black cabin bag has disappeared.

Immigration Police in Bangkok confirms that his visa had expired, and he was registered as an overstayer. He had not been online using his mobile phone since his departure from Ranong.

The discovery of his death was made possible through the efforts of his sister Anne Jensen in Denmark and, among others, ScandAsia in Bangkok investigating his disappearance, including interviews with police, rescue teams, and witnesses. His family has now been informed.
