Nordic countries maintain investment confidence in the Philippines despite corruption scandals

Nordic businesses continue to show confidence in the Philippines despite ongoing corruption issues, said Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Secretary Ernesto Perez.

At ARTA’s 2025 year-end conference, Perez said the country remains attractive to investors thanks to a “whole-of-government approach” and private sector support. He noted that Nordic companies, known for transparency and ethical standards, remain engaged in the Philippine market.

Perez highlighted a recent Nordic Chamber of Commerce (NordCham) event, where ambassadors and business groups from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway reaffirmed their interest in expanding operations in the country.

The Danish Embassy in Manila has shown particular focus on the maritime sector, hosting a seminar on shipbuilding and repair with experts from the EU and OECD. The Philippines, Perez said, ranks fifth globally in shipbuilding and continues to supply the world’s largest pool of seafarers.

He added that reforms guided by a World Bank assessment and ARTA’s new “ease of doing business” roadmap aim to improve the country’s business environment and strengthen investor confidence.
