Norway and Singapore partner to promote green maritime technology, focusing on energy efficiency, green fuels, and sustainable business models.
Norway is boosting its commitment to maritime decarbonisation in Singapore through a new partnership. SINTEF Ocean, part of the Foundation for Industrial and Technical Research, is collaborating with Singapore’s Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD).
The collaboration focuses on reducing fossil fuel reliance and enhancing energy efficiency in the maritime sector, addressing global environmental challenges.
SINTEF Ocean will join GCMD as a knowledge partner in the new FME MarTrans program, an eight-year initiative funded by the Research Council of Norway and industry, with a budget over NOK 300 million. The program involves 65 partners, including 18 Norwegian shipping companies, to advance green maritime technologies.
The collaboration will focus on enhancing vessel energy systems, building green fuel supply chains, and creating sustainable business models. Through pilot projects, SINTEF and GCMD aim to speed up maritime decarbonisation, with a focus on ammonia as marine fuel and scaling energy-efficient technologies.
