Philippine Embassy brings consular services to Filipino community in Greenland

The Philippine Embassy in Denmark, in collaboration with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in London and the local Filipino community, conducted a consular outreach program in Nuuk, Greenland, on Saturday 28 June 2025.

Held at Krist Konge Kirke in the Greenlandic capital, the outreach served the growing Filipino population on the island, which now stands at 1,110 nationals—695 of whom live in Nuuk. Filipinos make up the largest non-Greenlandic and non-Danish community in the territory, which has a total population of about 57,000.

During the visit, the consular team processed 144 services. These included 37 passport applications, 2 travel documents, 12 civil registry applications, 23 notarials, 23 legal and welfare consultations, 20 employment contract registrations, and 27 applications or renewals for Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) membership.

Members of the local Filipino community supported the Embassy team by providing the venue and logistics for the event. In return, they expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s efforts to deliver government services directly to the island.

Greenland is the world’s largest island and an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. Although about 80 percent of its surface is permanently covered in ice, the Filipino community—many of whom are employed in hospitality, catering, and cleaning services—has grown steadily in recent years.
