Singaporean StarHub has successfully completed its nationwide rollout of Nokia’s XGS-PON technology, enabling homes across Singapore to access 10 Gbps internet speeds. This makes StarHub the first operator in Singapore to achieve full nationwide coverage using the high-speed fiber network, in collaboration with the Finnish company Nokia.
The upgraded infrastructure, part of Singapore’s Digital Connectivity Blueprint, enhances broadband capacity to support AI applications, immersive gaming, and advanced security solutions. It also allows StarHub to introduce premium digital services while improving network efficiency through AI-driven operations.
According to Lee Yeu Ching, Vice President of Fixed and Media Networks at StarHub, the deployment marks a major milestone in the company’s Cloud Infinity Strategy.
“Nokia, our longstanding partner, has played a vital role in this successful transition to XGS-PON. This upgrade will allow faster adoption of 10 Gbps services, supporting Singapore’s national digital transformation plan,” he said.
First in the world
The rollout also makes StarHub the first telecom provider in the world to migrate entirely to a software-defined access network (SDAN) using Nokia’s Altiplano solution. The system enhances network management through AI-powered automation, allowing real-time detection of issues and optimization of network resources.
Ming Kin Ngiam, Head of SEA South for Network Infrastructure Sales at Nokia, said:
“We are entering the Fiber for Everything era. Next-generation PON and automation help operators maximize the potential of fiber networks and introduce new services faster. StarHub is setting a new standard in network modernization.”
