The Singapore Symphony Orchestra has announced the death of its former Director of Artistic Planning, Danish arts executive Hans Sørensen, Slipped Disc reports.

Sørensen died last week in Oslo. No cause of death has been disclosed.

He served with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra from 2019 to 2025, where he helped shape the orchestra’s artistic programmes and led several internationally recognised recording projects. During his tenure, the orchestra also navigated the challenges of the pandemic and attracted record audience numbers.

Sørensen was known for supporting young musicians, including Singapore violinist Chloe Chua, and for developing acclaimed recordings released by labels Pentatone and Chandos Records.

Originally from southern Denmark, Sørensen built a career in classical music management that included work with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

Last year he moved to Norway to take up a new role with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
