Sweden gives 2.9m$ to UN Rohingya clean energy programme in Bangladesh

Sweden has given 2.9m$ to support UN-led clean cooking and reforestation efforts for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR said Sweden has contributed 2.9m$ to support the SAFE+2 programme for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

The programme focuses on expanding access to clean cooking fuel, including LPG. It also supports forest restoration and green skills training.

SAFE+2 is jointly implemented by UNHCR, FAO, IOM, and WFP. The agencies said the work is coordinated with the Government of Bangladesh.

UNHCR’s representative in Bangladesh said needs remain high as funding falls. Sweden’s ambassador to Bangladesh said the support helps refugees keep using cleaner fuel.

UNHCR said Sweden’s total support to SAFE+2 and the earlier SAFE+ now totals 23.5m$.
