Sweden is stepping up its support for sustainable industrial development in the Philippines, focusing on energy-efficient technologies that can help local companies reduce costs and improve competitiveness.

The Embassy of Sweden said that Swedish companies SKF and Atlas Copco joined government officials and industry leaders at the Swedish Perspectives in Energy Efficiency forum in Manila. Discussions centred on how modern technologies can support sectors such as manufacturing, food and beverage, and power generation.

Swedish Ambassador Anna Ferry said energy efficiency remains essential for industrial resilience.

“Energy efficiency is a critical factor for competitiveness and resilience. Sweden’s experience shows that industrial modernization and sustainability can go hand in hand. We are long-term partners with the Philippines, sharing this expertise,” she said.

The Philippines faces some of Asia’s highest electricity prices at around 18 US cents per kilowatt-hour, creating strong incentives for industries to adopt energy-saving solutions. A Business Sweden report highlights that manufacturing and food and beverage companies account for about 80 percent of industrial energy consumption.

Officials from the Department of Energy and the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance said partnerships between government, industry and technology providers are key to accelerating upgrades.

Representatives from Swedish companies noted rising interest in integrated, sustainability-focused solutions that reduce energy use while improving performance.

Team Sweden said it will continue working with Philippine industries to expand access to sustainable technologies.
