Thammasat University Hospital and Novo Nordisk Thailand join forces to fight obesity and diabetes

Thammasat University Hospital and Novo Nordisk Pharma (Thailand) Ltd. have launched a new collaboration titled “Partnership Project for the Transition into the Fourth Decade of Thammasat University Hospital: Beat Obesity, Beat Diabetes.” The public-private partnership aims to promote a holistic approach to care and improve equitable access to treatment for patients across Thailand.

The initiative responds to Thailand’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases. According to national health data, more than 40 percent of the Thai population is considered overweight or obese. In addition, the International Diabetes Federation estimates that at least 6.4 million people in Thailand are living with diabetes. These conditions represent not only major public health concerns but also growing economic challenges, contributing to lower productivity, increased healthcare costs, and long-term pressure on national development.

The collaboration brings together the medical expertise of Thammasat University Hospital and the global healthcare innovation of Novo Nordisk, with a shared vision of delivering more than just disease treatment—emphasizing prevention, education, and access.

“As Thammasat University Hospital approaches its fourth decade, we are committed to delivering care that treats the whole person,” said Associate Professor Dr. Dilok Piyayotai, Director of Thammasat University Hospital. “We believe everyone deserves equal access to healthcare, and this partnership is an important step toward that goal.”

Enrico Cañal Bruland, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Thailand, added, “We are proud to partner with a respected institution like Thammasat University Hospital, which has a deep understanding of the Thai healthcare landscape. Together, we aim to develop sustainable, effective solutions for managing obesity and diabetes.”

A key feature of the partnership is the use of digital technology to facilitate two-way communication between patients and healthcare providers. The platform will offer accessible, trustworthy information to help patients better understand and manage their conditions, enabling them to take an active role in their own care.
