Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between Norway and Vietnam, especially on green and sustainable development.

Chinh proposed that both countries sign a Letter of Intent on a Green Strategic Partnership soon. The planned partnership would cover green transition, circular economy initiatives and joint efforts on climate change adaptation.

He encouraged Norway to support more investments in Vietnam’s marine economy and renewable energy projects. Priority sectors mentioned included offshore wind, fisheries, waste treatment and other circular economy related industries.

Støre welcomed the proposals and agreed to deepen cooperation on offshore wind, renewable energy and environmental technologies. Both leaders supported faster progress on an EFTA–Vietnam free trade agreement to expand trade and investment.

During the Johannesburg summit, Chinh also held separate meetings with the German and Egyptian prime ministers. These talks concluded his working trip to Kuwait, Algeria and South Africa before returning to Vietnam.
